Japan’s attack on Pear Harbor confirmed what many experts had already declared: the aircraft carrier had supplanted the battleship as the arbiter of sea power. The decisive battles that followed – Coral Sea, Midway, Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz – would all be decided by the airplanes taking off from carrier decks to strike enemies beyond the horizon.

Pacific Flattops presents these the dozen heavy carriers that decided these battles, on the huge, oversized pieces we’ve used before for battleships in Golden Journal No. 31: Deluxe Bismarck. You don’t need these pieces to play Midway and South Pacific; they’re the same as the pieces in the games, but you kinda do: they’re way bigger and way nicer.
